Fishing at Walters Lake, South Cerney

Fishing at Walters Lake near South CerneyWalters Lake, located next to Lake Pochard, is a purpose-built commercial match lake that has been established for 9 years and has now matured into an ideal pleasure and match fishery.

The 3-acre lake has 4 lanes of 73 pegs, designed in such a way that every peg fishes towards an island and hedge planting has divided the pegs into 2’s. Even on busy days it seems as though you have your own little lake.

The fish stocks are mostly Carp between 5-8lbs with some fish in low doubles, a good head of Tench to 7lb+ and Bream to 8lb+ with some lovely Roach and Rudd up to 1½ lb+.

In 2013, match weights were spectacular with many over 300lb and a lake record weight of 446lb. During the winter months when the Carp go a bit quieter, the silver fish have a chance to show themselves more and there have been several match weights of 30-40lbs of Roach and Skimmers.

The venue opens at 7am with fishing until dusk in the summer and 7.30am until dusk during December to February. Tickets and bait are available from the on-site 60 seater café (open seven days a week) which offers the famous all day breakfast and a wide selection of home cooked meals. Rods and coaching can also be arranged, if booked in advance.
